About the Union County West End Fair Association

Laurelton, Pennsylvania -- The Union County West End Fair began in 1925 as a "homecoming picnic" for the folks of Laurelton to entertain former residents who returned for a reunion visit with old neighbors, relatives and friends.

The first week in August was chosen so that the picnic could feature sweet corn and was to be known as "The Corn Festival" in the early years. The fair later became an agricultural fair for all of Union County.

Today, the fair continues to promote agriculture with educational activities, exhibits, tractor pulls, and much more. Community involvement is vital to the fair's success each year and comes in many forms.

  1. Fair Association Members are volunteers who donate their time and talents year round to plan and organize the fair. This includes everything from organizing the entertainment, entering exhibitor information into the computer database, overseeing the tractor pulls and other contests, to making sure the grounds and bathrooms are maintained and kept clean.
  2. The Penn State Cooperative Extension of Union County and the Agriculture Education Department of Mifflinburg High School work together to promote youth involvement through 4H and FFA projects.
  3. Livestock Buyers purchase animals from 4H and FFA youth.
  4. Sponsors provide financial and in-kind donations to support the many programs and activities at the fair.
  5. Vendors add flavor to the fair with their wares and food items, or educational information to promote agriculture.

There is so much more that we haven't mentioned. We are ever grateful for the help and support of our community.
