Department 14 - Fruits and Nuts

  1. See general rules.
  2. In selecting fruit for exhibition, choose specimens that would bring the highest market price. Do not select the largest. Select medium size. In plate displays, select five specimens as nearly alike as possible.
  3. The following criteria is to be used as a basis for judging of exhibits: exterior quality — size, uniformity of color, uniformity of shape, shell texture, condition. Interior quality — one specimen will be cut.
  4. Premiums will be awarded only when the exhibit complies with the standard, is meritorious, and properly named.
  5. All entries must be raised and owned by exhibitor.
  6. Only one entry per family may be entered in each class.

Section 1 Fruits and Berries

14002 Peaches, plate of 5, any named variety. Home grown fruits (5 different items).
14003 Pears, plate of 5, any named variety.
14004 Plums, plate of 5, any named variety.
14005 Fruit display - plate or basket of assorted.
14006 Any berries in season, single plate of 1 pint.
14007 Any berries in season, fruit bearing canes in a vase.

Section 2 Edible Nuts

All nuts must have been grown in the fair's surrounding community within the past year. Ten specimens of each variety entered, outside husks or burrs removed. NUTS WILL BE CRACKED.

Section 3 Monstrosities

14020 Any fruit or nut which has grown in grotesque shapes or unusually large proportions.
